‘Ask the Experts’ May 12 in Felton

The Satellite Second Saturday Open House program includes free classes on iPhone tips, summer learning for parents of grade schoolers, business branding, digital photography, web design and astrology

The Satellite in Felton is hosting a drop in Ask the Experts Open House Saturday, May 12 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Satellite Member specialists will answer questions on summer learning for young students, branding your business, tips and tricks for the iPhone, digital photography and web design and astrology. Satellite member Wild Poppies will also showcase eco-conscious gifts for Mother’s Day.

The event is part of The Satellite’s Second Saturday Open House series, showcasing local artists, writers, musicians. craftspeople and experts on a wide range of topics. The day’s schedule is as follows:

11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Branding Yourself: Branding your Business
Stella Norfleet, Branding Coach and Multi-cultural Creative Director, offers short, one-to-one branding consultations. Stella has developed successful brand positioning and brand preferences for multi-national leading companies such as Ford Motor, Kodak, Pepsi, Corona, Johnson & Johnson, Huggies, Kotex, Ponds, Unilever, Kimberly Clark, and Exxon among other major corporations.

11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Wild Poppies Eco Boutique
Wild Poppies has unique artisan gifts from moms: organic-grown cotton aprons, one-of-a-kind wrap lamps with a Verdigris patina, made locally in Santa Cruz.

11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Summer Learning, Fun and Painless
For parents with third through eighth graders. What to do for summer review? Educational therapist Laura Acevedo presents on easy tips for summer learning fun.

Noon – 2:30 p.m. Astrology Dice
Full time international astrologer Laurie Twilight, with a masters in psychology and 36 years experience as an astrologer, will give mini astrology readings. Digital media specialist Carl Uebelhart answers questions on website, photography and digital post-processing.

1:30 – 3 p.m. iPhone Class on mobile apps
Apple store wonder Doreen Lozano will host a half hour class on iPhone secrets. Learn about some of the interesting apps available to you on your iPhone and also about app management so that you do not use your battery time unnecessarily. You will learn tips and tricks on finding the best apps and discern the content of the app before you pay for it. As part of app management, you will learn good housekeeping practices for your iPhone.

Doreen will also be available for Q&A after the class.

We haven’t even opened yet and people love us

We’re easily a month away from from opening in Santa Monica and are already getting rave reviews for our space at 3110 Main Street (The Annex).

The International Documentary Association hosted “Documentary Doctor” Fernada Rossi for a day long seminar on developing the perfect documentary trailer. Rossi’s newest book – “Trailer Mechanics: How to Make Your Documentary Fundraising Trailer” is phenomenal and her presentation Saturday was something more than phenomenal.

The Satellite crew had been working almost around the clock for weeks to prep the space which now includes a remote control screen, wall-inset projector and surround sound. By 3 a.m. Saturday the paint was drying, the art was hung and the chairs were in place.

A good time was had by all, we’re starting to meet our neighbors (though no sign of former Gov. Schwarzenegger) and the staff at 31Ten is very cool.

Now back to prepping for our launch in Los Gatos…
