Social Media: The Latest Get Rich Slowly Scheme – June 24

June 5, 2009

Event: Wednesday, June 24, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Satellite Telework Centers
6265 Highway 9 in Felton, California

Join our special guest speaker Joel Postman, veteran communications expert and the author of SocialCorp: Social Media Goes Corporate, for a discussion of how social media and social networking have forever changed the world of communications, and how anyone can participate effectively by following a few simple steps.

Facebook has been adding 600,000 users a day, with no end in sight, and recently passed the 200 million mark. Twitter, once mocked for its silly sounding name and supposedly trivial style of communications, is nearly doubling in size every month and has around 12 million monthly visitors. CNN Breaking News, jetBlue, Comcast, Barrack Obama, Oprah, Ashton Kutcher and P. Diddy all use Twitter, but not to make money. What’s going on? What’s all the fuss about? Should you pay attention? Find out Wednesday, June 24. Pizza and drinks at 6:30. Joel takes the stage at 7 p.m. Copies of his book will be available.

About Joel Postman
Joel Postman is the principal of Socialized, a consultancy that helps companies make effective use of social media in corporate communications, marketing and public relations. He is an avid user of social media, and his blog http://www.socializedpr.com is ranked by Advertising Age among the top 250 PR, advertising and media blogs.

Prior to founding Socialized, Joel was EVP of Emerging Media at Eastwick Communications, where he developed and implemented social media strategy and initiatives for companies like Seagate, Fujitsu, and Ustream.TV. Before that he has over a decade of Fortune 500 corporate communications leadership experience, including four years as the speechwriter to the CEO of Sun Microsystems, and three years as a director of internal and executive communications at Hewlett-Packard.

Joel has a BA degree in communications, and experience in print and broadcast news. His book, SocialCorp: Social Media Goes Corporate, was published in December 2008 by New Riders/Voices That Matter, and is available on Amazon and in major bookstores. http://is.gd/73Sh

To the extent that he can be said to have grown up, Joel did so in Silicon Valley. Joel lives in Boulder Creek, in the Santa Cruz Mountains, which means he can get to the Valley in under an hour, but he’s far enough away to see deer in his backyard and a million stars at night. He holds several technology patents and is an experienced Zamboni driver.

We get the keys

January 30, 2009

We’ve started work on the old Union Bankbuilding with an eye toward an end-of-March opening. The construction team has gutted the building and will start framing any day now. We’re also making progress on the registration and reservation system, custom developed in Ruby on Rails, phone system, HID and countless other things. Furniture and cubes are ordered and Muge is working on the interior design. Lots more to come. First photos here…
