Identity Theft – Protecting Your Family and Your Business Seminar at Satellite Telework Centers July 8
FELTON, CALIF., July 1, 2010 – Risk management specialist Alan Smith with host a free seminar on protecting your family and business from identity theft on Thursday, July 8 at 7 p.m. at Satellite Telework Centers in Felton.
Identity theft is called the fastest growing white collar crime, affected between 10 million and 15 million consumers in 2009 and cost businesses and the economy upward of $50 billion annually. The Federal Trace Commission issued a study whose findings indicated that it takes an individual upward of 600 hours to repair damage done by identity thieves and estimated individual losses of $40,000 to $92,000.
The seminar will cover:
* The five types of identity theft (it’s not just about credit card fraud)
* The cost of identity theft to individuals and businesses
* A review of federal and state laws relating to the steps businesses must take to protect customer data
* What the FTC expects businesses to do to control privacy in the workplace
* Steps every business should take to reduce liability and mitigate damages resulting from identity theft.
About the presenter
Alan Smith has been providing business development solutions for clients for more than 25 years. He is a small business and group benefits specialist and independent association for Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc., providing access to legal advice, guidance, counsel and other services including debt collection letters and document review for a fraction of the cost normally associated with legal services.
After a personal experience with identity theft, Smith went on to learn all he could about the crime and the risks for small business owners. Smith is also founder and CEO of the Marketing Resource Group, a non-profit association for marketing and marketing communications professionals in Silicon Valley, providing seminars and speakers on various marketing topics.
