We shall strive to incorporate sustainability into our core business operations through internal and external efforts. Specifically, we shall adopt the following policies and practices:
- Design Satellite workplace centers to have the lowest possible energy use and environmental impact.
- Create a healthy environmental workplace for clients, employees and the community.
- Decrease transit carbon footprint.
- Reduce, Reuse and Recycle all resources.
- Purchase environmentally-friendly products.
- Conserve energy, water and natural resources.
Reduce, Reuse and Recycle
We shall –
- Go “paperless” to the greatest extent possible.
- Strive to increase waste diversion by recycling all paper, bottles and cans.
- Provide simple recycling/garbage containers at each workspace to encourage recycling.
- Compost tea, coffee and food waste.
- Reduce the waste generated by donating reusable office items (furniture, equipment) to charitable organizations.
- Use previously-owned furniture as much as possible.
- Use double-sided printing as corporate default.
- Use reusable, rather than disposable, cups and utensils.
- Use energy efficient and water conserving appliances; use motion sensing lighting and water fixtures.
Toxics Reduction
We shall reduce the use of toxic materials to protect employee health and the environment. Specifically we shall -
- Commit to purchasing non-toxic products.
- Purchase all natural janitorial cleaning products.
- Recycle waste lamps, batteries, aerosol cans and other universal wastes.
- Batteries – Purchase rechargeable batteries only.
- Purchase low mercury fluorescent lighting.
Environmentally Preferable Purchasing
We shall purchase/use –
- office & toilet paper with 35%-100% recycled content (or tree-free paper)
- products with least packaging (no plastic, styrofoam, aerosol packaging)
- Energy Star rated appliances and office equipment
- All water efficient toilets and faucet aerators
Property Improvement Components
To the greatest extent possible, we shall purchase/install in building out new Satellites -
- On-demand water fixtures
- LED lighting
- Sun tunnels for natural lighting
- Zero-VOC paint
- Zero or low-VOC carpets and cabinets
We shall strive to remodel using LEED Green building standards.
Conserve
We shall conserve fossil fuels and promote conservation of fossil fuels by -
- promoting the use of public transit
- providing and offering telecommuting options
- participating in Spare the Air campaigns
- providing indoor bike parking
Employee and Community Education
We shall educate employees and the community on resource conservation and pollution prevention through –
- hosting only zero waste events i.e. ensuring that no waste is generated during company picnics, meetings.
- training programs or brown bag sessions to educate about proper recycling & composting practices, resource conservation ideas, importance of low-toxic purchasing etc.
- informing employees and community of environmental issues in newsletters, community events, training material and discussion meetings.
- promoting the Satellite as a resource of a sustainable meeting space, workspace, and business for the community, clients and employees.
